Toward a live band

Working with Matthias Kern at SoundBach Studio on songs we can play live.

Updated on 6 October 2026 with more about Matthias Kern and SoundBach Studio, shared with his permission.

I've met with Matthias Kern at SoundBach Studio, his recording studio in Sarleinsbach. We're working toward a band that can play these songs live and make our first live album.

Our first meetup at SoundBach Studio in Sarleinsbach.

We're at the beginning. There isn't a finished lineup, a recorded live album, or a show to announce yet. We have the songs, and now we need to work out how to play them together.

Matthias Kern and SoundBach Studio

Matt is Matthias Kern. He runs SoundBach Studio, a recording studio in Sarleinsbach in Upper Austria, and that's where we had our first meetup.

The studio records, mixes and masters music in all kinds of genres, and it also takes on voice recordings and other audio productions. Matthias works with artists, bands, voice artists and companies, from the first idea to the finished master. He puts the focus on an authentic sound, precise production and a relaxed place to work, with modern equipment and a personal approach to every project.

If you make music and you're looking for somewhere to record, mix or master it, have a look at soundbachstudio.at or follow the studio on Instagram. Here's a short look inside:

Playing together again

I used to play in a band with friends, and I've missed making music with other people. I'm glad to be working toward that again.

Live in Postrock explores how these songs could sound in a live setting, but those are produced recordings. This is the start of working toward an actual band.

You can listen to the albums here. I've also written more about my earlier experience in bands and why I came back to music in Why these songs matter.
