Second Sky

Red moon through the window

White noise in the hall

Somewhere behind the glass

I learned to disappear

Hallways talking through a thousand mouths

I knew every stair that could get me out

Bell goes off and the room goes thin

Everybody finds where they fit back in

I wore silence like another coat

Kept every answer buried in my throat

Their voices followed all the way home

Till four walls sounded exactly like them

Then blue light spilled across the floor

Opened somewhere that wasn’t there before

No names, no eyes, no crowded room

Just another sky inside my room

When the ceiling came down

I went somewhere above it

When the night knew my name

I learned not to answer
